On Friday, January 8th, 2010, residents from Pine Ridge Care & Rehabilitation enjoyed a fun filled journey to Italy! Residents have traveled to various locations around the world all in the comfort of the dining room at the facility.
During there recent trip to Italy, they explored Coliseum and Trevi Fountain in Rome, laid on the beaches of Naples, stomped grapes in Tuscany to make their own wine, and took a try at straightening up the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Residents were treated to the “wine” they helped stomp and their favorite Italian dish:Â pizza!
For the past three years on the second Friday of every month, residents have embarked on their journey to a new destination. They have taken trips to Australia, Africa, Hawaii, Ireland, Chilé, Scotland, and more. The team created passports for the residents to use while they visit the various locations. Residents assist the activities staff in determining their next destination by browsing the internet for information on different locations. Once they find their next destination, the residents create a presentation full of fun facts, pictures, and sometimes videos. In addition, the employees provide the residents with souvenirs, ethnic food and beverages from the area of choice, and listen to the area’s music.
Not only is taking these imagination-vacations fun and exciting, they are also educational to all that attend. Not too mention, they’re easy to pack for! We never have the feeling that we forgot something, because all you need to take along is your imagination. Residents look forward to their next vacation in February when they will visit Holland and Amsterdam.
These accommodations and activities are part of the Quality of Life Program at Pine Ridge Care & Rehabilitation Center. For more information about this program, or to take a tour of the facility, please contact the admissions team at 423-543-3202.
